Want to Know the Importance of Feminism? Then Watch This Movie
This post contains spoilers. It is a review of the movie “Moxie” from Netflix. Instead of going through the movie step by step I will explain why it shows the importance of feminism.
The main character Vivian is the daughter of a feminist that used to rebel against the patriarchy with her friends. At first Vivian does not know a lot about how high school girls’ lives are impacted by gender inequality and sexism. When a new girl starts school and her mother tells her stories from the past, Vivian slowly starts to open her eyes to the unfair treatment that girls at her school face.
So she starts a feminist revolution in small steps. She anonymously writes a magazine about the sexism at her school and shares knowledge about both sexism and feminism. Her power comes from witnessing inequality and it gets stronger as she sees the impact she is having at her school.
If you want to know the importance of feminism - just watch Moxie. It demonstrates examples of how sexism operates in society. For instance how the boys make a list about which girls are more attractive based on their bodies. Another example is how the principal wants to control what the female students wear. It shows how power and control starts from an early age. It gives small and big examples of how it affects girls (and women) to live in a sexist society.
When you have watched Moxie you will know the importance of feminism. Hopefully, you will have learned that feminism is about freedom. It is about girls and women’s right to exist in this world. It is about their right to be who they are. It is about their right to live without fear and violence.
Moxie is a cool movie about a high school feminist revolution that spreads like a fire. It is a movie about justice and how trying to make a difference matters. Enjoy!
