Today we Should Fight for all Women

Happy International Women’s Day!

This year most people will be celebrating the day online. Debates will be held. Problems will be presented. Solutions will be found.

It is very important to have this day to shed a light on the lack of gender equality in the world. But what is gender equality really about? Some people suggest that if we are equal we would all be the same.

We are not the same. The world would be a very strange place if we were. Our differences make the world an interesting place. This does not mean that we do not have similarities or that we are not equals. We do have similarities and we should be equal. Sadly, that is not how it is in societies around the world.

Today I want to send a thought to the women fighting multiple battles every day.

I am sending a thought to you that have experienced being othered due to the colour of your skin. I find it unfair that you face hatred due to your gender and your skin colour.

I am sending a thought to you who live in a body-size determined “above average”. You did not choose your life circumstances, nor did you choose your body. Your body is the size it should be - keep fighting and society will eventually conform.

I am sending a thought to you who live with more than one ethnic background. You are more than your background - and no matter what the media says - you are a valuable human being. That applies both when your background is from the east and the west.

I am sending a thought to you fighting for your own survival. Dear person; You are very strong! The world needs you. Keep fighting!

I am sending a thought to you who meet resistance because of your religion. Maybe you are wearing a head scarf, and if you are, I want you to know that there is a place for you too.

I am sending a thought to you who live with a disability. I do not understand your daily struggles, but I will try to understand. Society is for everyone - and I know, that you face hatred and restrictions - I hope you know that society belongs to you as well.

I am sending a thought to you who live with a non-heterosexual sexuality. Everyone should be in the world as they are and love who they love.

I am sending a thought to you who live without a home. You live on the street and you fight every day. Your life is as meaningful as any other life.

I am sending a thought to you who fall outside of the dominant gender binary system. Be yourself and keep fighting.

I am sending a thought to all women. Cis, trans, black, white, rich or poor. ALL women deserve a life with dignity and without violence.

There is a long way to make that world a reality, but together we can make a difference.

Thank you for reading!
